Epson Stylus SX400
October 27th, 2009The Epson Stylus SX400 is claimed by Epson to be a “compact genius” and offers an affordable solution to the home user’s printing, scanning and copying needs. Whether an inkjet printer is affordable depends of two factor, it purchase and its running cost in terms of how much its costs to replace the printer ink cartridges. With a purchase price of under £70 the SX400 certainly ticks that box, but the Epson SX400 ink cartridges are a little on the expensive side with a full set of genuine Epson ink cartridges costing over £30. Fortunately there are cheaper alternatives available in the form of compatible ink cartridges which cost half the price of the originals and print the same amount. Some people will tell you that using compatibles will damage your printer but this is rubbish and rumors start by the printer manufacturers trying to protect their high profit margins on OEM products. The performance of the SX400 is difficult to find fault with, it weakest point is probably its print speed which is slightly below average and inkjet printer are not known for their fats printing speeds. The print quality produced by the SX400 make up for the lack of speed however, the SX400 handles all types of documents very well from basic text to high resolution photos. The scanner is also impressive with a maximum resolution of 1200dpi and is capable for scanning all documents and images up to A4. It comes with software for editing photos as well as converting printed text into files that can later be edited with programs such as word or excel. The photo copier makes use of the same A4 scanner for produces its copies with it does with a reasonable quality and speed, prefect for copying documents in a rush the photocopier also works without the need for a PC.
